Third Grade Assembly

Wow.

Impressive.

Ok, so I know I'm not a very long-time mother of an elementary student (he's only in kindergarten)- so I don't have a lot to compare this too - but WOW! What a great assembly!

My thoughts can't even begin to put into words what I felt watching this terrific third grade show... but I'll attempt to share a fraction of what I felt today.

Today, I went to my mentoring student's assembly at school.

It gave me goose bumps from head to toe.

I couldn't have been more proud had it been my own child in the show.

It simply felt right being there. He waved to me several times (his parents weren't there) and it made my heart swell. Because I think his might have been swelling too. And that alone makes my heart pop right out of my chest.

He's such a nice boy. Shy. Smart. Withdrawn. Cute. Sad. When a smile breaks through on his face - I feel like I've conquered the world! He beats me at Tic Tac Toe... every darn time we play! AND he shares my love for puppies!

And to know that he doesn't have all the love possible at home, makes my heart break every time we're together. I'd like to bring him home with us forever and show him what family is all about.

Anyway... back to the program. Not only was I a proud of my buddy, I was extremely proud of the entire program. It was all about America... and loving our country... and the VERY interesting history about what America stands for and a GREAT tribute to all of those who serve our country now and in the past.

It was simply the best school program that I've ever, in my life, seen!!!!!!!!

Throughout the show, the audience was cheering, whistling, hooting, and hollering to these third graders in peer admiration for all that they learned and all that they were reminding and teaching us.

We sang the National Anthem together along with other patriotic songs and we stood together (like we were all best friends) and said the Pledge while looking at our beautiful flag.

IT WAS AWESOME!

Now, if we could all walk away with what we learned... practice what we were just preached... the world, or at least America, would be an even better place.

I'm so darn proud to be an American. Proud of our hero's. Proud of our freedom. And so darn PROUD of my little third grader!
