Home Sweet Home!

We made it home last night and we're more than pleased at the extremely nice welcome left by our renters! They drew on the sidewalk with chalk to say, "welcome home" and left us a bottle of wine with an extremely appreciative and thankful note regarding their time in our home. (We couldn't even tell they had been here!) It was a very nice welcome after such a wonderful getaway! (I tried to take a picture of the driveway but it doesn't show up good at all!)

We were able to cruise over and pick up the pups this morning. It was so fun to see them! They were more than excited to see us as well. It just doesn't feel the same to be home without them here. They totally complete our family!

The rest of our trip was much busier than the beginning but just as enjoyable in a different kind of way. We really enjoyed Boulder but our journey to Estes Park was a major highlight! We ate at the Smiling Elk Restaurant outside on this beautiful terrace complete with misting water above our umbrella over looking the town. It was so refreshing! The food was terrific too.

After that we headed to the cable cars that rise to the top of a gigantic mountain. It was our absolute favorite thing ever! It was beautiful to say the least. When we arrived on the top, we stayed for several hours hand feeding the chipmunks!!!! (Ok, we definitely need them as pets!) Nathan and I could have played with them for the entire rest of our trip - and then some! They were soooo cute and soooo much fun! They had as much personality as a dog does!

As late afternoon came, we headed to the Rocky Mountain National Forest where we saw some elk - finally! The one that was closest to the road was lying down and was HUGE! It had a rack about the size of mine - NOT! (That was Scott's favorite part of the trip - of course!)
We went on a hike, which about killed me! I was out of breath right away! What a workout! I'm so out of shape! In fact, Scott wanted to go buy a treadmill today - but I just wanted to stay home. However, the diet begins... tomorrow.

On Friday we went to Water World, which is a truly amazing water park BUT the crowd was TERRIBLE to say the least! We didn't even hit 1/3 of the park and the lines were a minimum of an hour wait. Ugh, I wasn't impressed with that at all! Next year, we'll be trying it during the week - not on a Friday.

Friday evening we headed to Jackie's and had an AMAZING supper - as usual. That was definitely another highlight of our trip - her cooking! We met my friend Meg and 2 of her 3 kids for a movie (Happy Feet) in the park at dusk. It was so much fun as we sat and chatted while the kiddo's were enjoying this cute flick on the BIG, BIG screen.

Saturday we did the much-needed shopping for Jennifer! Why, why, why do I love that so much?! Anyway the guys went white water rafting with some of Scott's college buddies and we (I) enjoyed the day shop, shop, shopping! We met them that evening for a Rockies game.

Sunday we ate another amazing meal before we left Jackie and Nick's and then headed to the Great Indoor Store. They boys went to the mall while I looked at light fixtures, cabinet knobs, faucets, and other hardware. I met them over at Dick's Sporting Goods store just in time to see Nathan climb the 67-foot rock wall. He was AWESOME and more than AMAZING! No one could believe that he was only 5 years old! Anyway, he wanted to do it again on the next skill level so we waited hours for him to attempt that one. He reached the top on that one as well! He is so athletically blessed!

All of us were sad to say good-bye to the Newell's and to end our nice vacation. However, it feels better than I ever imaged to be home. I'm doing laundry - which will be endless all day. Everyone (including the pups) are exhausted, so I think we'll take a family nap this afternoon. Yeah!
