Overrated!

So...Sunday, after church, we loaded up the pups, 4-wheeler, sled, all the winter clothes, mittens, hats, gloves, scarves, etc. that we own...and headed to Hill City for a tree tag. Yep, Nathan was the decision maker. He wanted to go into the forest and cut our own tree...again this year. We tried so very hard to persuade him to let us go buy one from the Boys Club but he wouldn't go for it. We secretly think this is such a festive tradition to cut our own tree KNOWING that it never quite pans out like we think it will...but again, the idea is SO festive. It was cold. We had hot cocoa before leaving town. We got the tree tag. Headed to the hills to find the world's most amazing tree and came home with absolutely NOTHING! Yep, you heard me right. NOTHING. Why does this entire concept seem so much better than it actually ever is? Scott and I bicker the entire time about where to look for a good tree. Scott thinks that the perfect one is going to be on the side of some main road. Ok, everybody else has already gotten those...you have to search - hence the 4-wheeler - get out of the car and LOOK. He also decided that the pups should come (totally amazed me that he even thought of this - Nathan and I didn't even think it was a good idea). Anyway, after a couple hours had passed, we pulled off and loaded up on the 4-wheeler (FINALLY). The pups would NOT stay in the back in these little "beds" that Scott worked up - so I held them as the three of us sat on one 4-wheeler. NOT SO FUN. Anyway, long story short...we ended up bringing them back to the car after holding them as we trekked up and down snowy, slippery, branches everywhere coming out of the ground, hills. Nathan rode on the sled on the way back to the car and then wanted me to join him. Ok, sledding should only be done with tons of snow...not 1/2 inch. You see, my butt (although over cushioned) felt EVERY single branch, rock, and bump known to mankind. It hurt. BUT Nathan thought it was hilarious...so we made the best of it and enjoyed his laughter ringing throughout the hills. Then it got to be dusk and we still had no tree. I told Scott to just cut one down but he talked Nathan and I into going to the Boys Club when we got back to town to buy a GOOD one there. We have yet to go to the Boys Club.

Next year, I will be the decision maker...and so help me, if I forget AGAIN how much fun this isn't, remind me!

Ok, talking of tree shopping/cutting - check out this blog: http://take90west.blogspot.com/2007/12/okay-so-we-arent-exactly-family-off-of.html I died laughing OUT LOUD as I read it.

Compared to them, our experience wasn't so bad after all! And, at least I got some good pics!
